I am currently getting my degree in psychology and do prenursing course. My goal in life is to become a psychiatric nurse. I do not want to keep an RN, so license.I practitioners prefer to all but a big step. And if you were in schools with a program like this that I seek to know how many! You can not ignore the level of care. Nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurse, which means that you have for your nursing experience and some RN first start. All NP programs require that you work as a nurse. You can not do everything in stock "a big step." Most programs require your BSN NP four years, averaging at least 3.5 in your & 3 and 4 years of your BSN and at least 2-3 years experience in nursing, even before receipt of your application. Then after that you still have more training and a very abbreviated course. It takes 8-10 years of your NP from the time you get in the freshmen BSN. Since there is a need for nurses, there are many schools that now for other applications and programs for direct access to care, such programs, to people without an RN or BSN go into a nursing program and complete courses that only allow them to sit for the NCLEX exam to be an RN and then connected to a BSN or MSN. The programs are rigorous and challenging as prices are squeezed into a relatively small timeframe. Some schools offer a combined RN and master's degree in nursing, so you can make a giant step. But who specializes in psychiatry, you must practice nursing in psychiatric institution for learning the ropes.
